When you start out working on a project, you may find that you need to change your mind.  Setting up a WikMapping project should be so easy to use that anyone make changes as needed. Some people create their own map surveys without input from our Map Team. We also design projects that need customization.

Early adopters to WikiMapping

WikiMapping is still young (We launched in January 2013), but Steve Spindler has been working with the following organizations for over 15 years.

  • Toole Design Group has developed bicycle plans for over half of the 50 largest cities in the US.
  • East Coast Greenway Alliance coordinates an bicycle and walking route from city to city between Maine and the Florida Keys.
  • Pennsylvania Environmental Council works to promote trails and restore habitat in Pennsylvania.
  • Clean Air Council  helps communities identify air quality issues originating from natural gas facilities and open fires.

Why are people using WikiMapping?

With a little effort, a WikiMapping project can get over 3000 comments from well over 1000 users in a month. All of this data is digital, getting rid of a lot of transcription. But mostly, people are using WikiMapping after they use someone else’s project or because it was recommended by someone. People are also using WikiMapping because they find that it works better for them than ArcGIS online solutions. Anyway, WikiMapping exports to GIS formats.

Our business model – Subscriptions, and customization.

While several planning firms use WikiMapping as-is, we can work with you directly to understand your needs and suggest specific customization and approaches based on our experience.

About our mascot, Mr. Krimsnatch.

Our mascot, Mr. Krimsnatch,  makes us smile.  He has something important to share on a map, as do so many people who contribute to WikiMapping projects. We hope he makes you smile too.
